The future of solar power
Summer internship at Elvia 2025
My role: UX/System designer
With an increasing need for green energy, the Norwegian Parliament in 2023 requested development of solar power equivalent to 8 TWh by 2030, a goal corresponding to approximately 5% of today’s total electricity production.
Brief: How can solar power development be advanced in Norway?
As a summer intern at Elvia, I worked as a UX designer in an interdisciplinary team, where diverse expertise in technology, economics and engineering strengthened our problem-solving approach.
It was exciting to work on a future oriented issue and the advancement of green energy. In the project, design contributed to strategy development through visualization and methods for improved communication. Understanding structures and issues, while seeing the big picture was important.
Felt study
Site visits to transformer stations in Maridalen, Smestad, Korsvoll and Bjølsen to gain deeper technical understanding.
Insights & analysis
Conducted 18 expert interviews, including representatives from Elvia, Statnett, solar power developers, and municipalities, to assess the current situation and identify improvement opportunities.
Facilitated an innovation workshop with 17 Elvia employees, translating research insights and identified challenges into concrete idea development. Designed and led the session to spark curiosity and encourage participants to think beyond today’s operational limitations.
We made an input board next to the coffee machine at the office, sparking conversations with Elvia employees about our project.
While the project findings remain confidential, the process involved research synthesis and concept development using Miro and Figma as primary collaboration and design tools. At the end of the project, we gave a presentation and report to managers and employees at Elvia.
